Food Business Registration
Required for honey and all food products.
Food Supervisor Certificate
At least one person — the nominated contact for food safety inspections.
Food Handler Certificate
Every person handling food.
Public Liability Insurance
Apiary registration
Mandatory in all Australian states — beekeepers must register their hives with the state agricultural authority. In Victoria, register with Agriculture Victoria. Separate from Food Business Registration.
Honey labelling compliance
Must declare country of origin, weight, producer name and address. Best before date required under FSANZ Standard 1.2.5.
Accurate labelling compliance
All pre-packaged honey must show: weight, ingredients, best before date, producer name and address, and country of origin.
Product Liability Insurance
Required if selling beeswax lip balm or skincare products — covers harm caused by the product itself.
