The defining capital asset — CO2 or diode laser. Significant investment. CO2 recommended for timber, acrylic, and leather.
Fume extractor / ventilation system
Critical — laser cutting produces toxic fumes. Must have adequate extraction at all times. Non-negotiable.
Computer and design software
LightBurn, Adobe Illustrator, or similar.
Rotary attachment
For engraving cylindrical items — glasses, mugs, bottles.
Jigs and fixtures
For consistent positioning and batch production.

Laser engravers are Class 4 lasers — must be operated safely with full enclosure and fume extraction. Never operate without extraction.
Electrical safety compliance
Laser cutter draws significant power — check site power requirements with market organiser before booking.
Copyright compliance
Never engrave copyrighted logos, characters, or designs without a licence. A common and serious trap for laser operators — affects Disney, sports teams, TV characters, and many other IP.
